Using Your Meta Data For On Page SEO

Basically, your meta data is something that you should never ignore when you are trying to gain better ranks with on page SEO.  The meta tags are in your control so there is no reason for you not to change them to become more appealing to the search engines.

This tag is not really all that important and recently Google announced that they no longer use this tag as a factor when ranking sites.  The jury is still out on whether Yahoo or Bing do so if you wish to get traffic from those sites then you may as well optimise the meta keywords for those search engines.  The reason for the lack of effectiveness of this tag is due to it being abused by spammer’s keyword stuffing it.
